Christmas wishes

Author: DAroo Created: 24 December 2009 Edited: 25 December 2009, 12:40 by DAroo

I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.
~Charles Dickens

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for populous fans all over the world.

Pop-ELO-Experiment RESTARTED

Author: TeratO Created: 23 December 2009 Edited: 23 December 2009, 01:03 by TeratO

4 months paused due to dataloss.
Pause is over - ELO tables are up again

After a 4 months lasting interruption due to a harddisc-crash with a full dataloss the players ELO-tables are frequently updated again since 20th, Dec.

Most players started with the initial ELO again. Only the ones which were published at the last tables before it paused took over their old ELO - just view that as giving them credits for their longlasting active support of the idea of that ELO-league. ELO is not static, so everybody has the opportunity to gain the rank that meet his skill.

New Run - New Fun!

Clan ELO Rankings will follow soon again too.

As long as there isn't something automated i'll go on with the "manual ELO" which is NOT a league by Pop:Re. That means taking reports manually in lobby and automatically evaluate it with a full functional database application written in PL/SQL with an interface for gamereporting.

3 years after the first detailed explanations about the principles of the skill rating ELO-system and even 6 years after the first suggestions by me Pop:Re aka Incawarrior still didn't succeed in the implementation.

Any attempts to help got refused and devalued since the beginning. When there were rumours about a new upcoming Matchmaker some weeks ago Inca suddenly did revelations about an automated ELO-implementation at the next Matchmaker - sad that it needs fear of concurrency only to move him. But probably it is just another empty announcement as usual for years.

I wish you good luck, have fun and have a nice flaming!

P.S. Don't forget: Do not take it too seriously! It is about friendly competition and sportsmenship. That also needs personality sometimes. Ask a No1 and you will see that it is not only skill that makes the No1 the No1.

Face Off (2D View)

A year or so ago, Ted started the OpenPop project. However, it got inactive very quickly. The development has been resumed and I (MrcredsAlex) started to develop on it.

The goal of the project is to create a C++ Open Source version of Populous. Once this is done, it will allow us to do anything we want with Populous.

You can view the project details on SourceForge.
